  1. I find it interesting that not one of these sites depends on third-party advertising. I run an advertising-supported website. It makes design work much, much more difficult.

    Also, none of these sites has a lot of topic diversity, which makes creating clean navigation much easier. My own site has over a dozen major categories and hundreds of sub-categories.
