There is no doubt that Facebook should be incorporated into almost any businesses marketing strategy as it is just so powerful. Think about it, Google is now looking at your social signals more than ever and there are hundreds of millions of users on Facebook that are just waiting to see what you have to say. The best thing about this is that it is all free of charge.
Having said all this, Facebook marketing is something that a lot of people often get very wrong and don’t do theirselves any favours with. In this post, we are going to give you five top tips that will really help your Facebook marketing campaign.
#1 – Get involved with Timeline
As you will probably already know, Facebook has recently rolled out its new version of profile pages named Timeline. Generally, these look a little better than the old profile designs and they have now made their way to business pages. The great thing about Timeline is that you are able to use a large image that can represent your brand, right at the top of your businesses page. This allows you to do some pretty creative stuff if you want to as well.
If you haven’t optimised for timeline as of yet, then your page will have still moved to this profile, but it won’t have the nice image at the top of the page. In my opinion, it is important to get involved with timeline as it shows that your page is still being regularly updated and that it is used by your company. It is unlikely people are going to ‘like’ your page if they think your page has been neglected.
#2 – Use Hootsuite or another third party application
Posting to Facebook can be quite a time consuming thing to do and you will probably have other things to think about. Luckily, there are apps such as Hootsuite that allow you to automate your Facebook and social media posting actions. This is a great little tool as it means that you can set things up at the beginning of the week and relax for the rest of the week as all of the work is done.
However, this is another tool that is misused a lot of the time. Just because you are able to automate the process, doesn’t mean that people want to be seeing the same content a million times in the same day. This will more than likely lead to them ‘unliking’ your page which is not what you want.
When using Hootsuite, make sure to use it wisely and don’t post too much. You also need to make sure that you come back to check if there’s been any interaction or activity on your pages regularly.
#3 – Analyse the best times to post
Depending on your niche and your followers on Facebook, you will probably notice that there are some times of the day that are better for posting than others. For example, if you are in the UK, then you will need to post when people are awake and the same goes for if post of your followers are in America or Australia.
However, you can actually look a lot deeper into it than this. You can look at when the best times of the day are for you to post and when people are more likely to engage with your posts too. You should also look into what types of media attract the most attention when it comes to your audience as you can then tailor your content for them.

This will basically look at all of the factors we have mentioned as well as how often you should be updating and the most popular keywords too. This is a very useful tool and should be used by all social media lovers.
#4 – Don’t spam
I touched on this briefly in the Hootsuite area of this post but it is so important that I feel the need to mention it again. When posting on Facebook, it is easy to post something every five minutes that basically says ‘Buy me’. However, this is the worst thing that you could possibly do. People hate being hassled by companies, especially on Facebook and if people notice that you are appearing in their news feed too much, they are going to click through and dislike your page, or simply unsubscribe from your updates.
Neither of these things are good as it means your message will no longer get through to your fans. Instead, you should post things regularly, that you think people will actually find interesting. If you have a piece of content you want to push, then post it a few times but not straight after each other. Perhaps ask what people thought of your previous post?
#5 – Participate in the conversation
Although you can automate your Facebook using services like Hootsuite, you still need to be actively involved with your page. If you are posting content that people actually care about, then chances are that you are going to attract some ‘likes’ and comments on your posts. People might ask questions or just say how much they enjoyed it, and this is a great chance for you to actively participate.
Let them know you arte thankful that they read your post and that they enjoyed it. If they have asked a question or have commented, comment back. This is also a great way to emphasise your brand so be aware of this at all times.
Facebook marketing should be treated with respect. It is a hugely powerful platform, but only if it is used correctly and luckily, so many people are doping it wrong that by doing it right, you will attract attention.
