Most of us browse the same websites every single day and this year, there have been a handful of websites that have remained popular throughout the year. We’ve compiled a list of the 10 most popular websites of 2012; some of them might be a surprise whilst others certainly won’t be as we expect most of you use them on a day-to-day basis.

#1 – Google

As the world’s largest search engine, Google is the number one most visited site on the web. Millions of people flock to Google every day searching for information from across the web.

#2 – Facebook

Again, no surprise here as almost everyone uses Facebook these days. The biggest social networking website in the world has hundreds of millions of active members and is the second most visited site of the year.

#3 – YouTube

YouTube is the world’s second largest search engine and see’s more than 4 billion video views every day. YouTube is owned by Google which gives them a huge share of the online search market.

#4 – Yahoo

Although Google might be King, Yahoo is still pretty big, at least in the US and it makes it to the list as the fourth most visited site of the year. Yahoo offers news, weather and many other services.

#5 – Amazon

Amazon is the world’s biggest online retailer and this year, it made it to number five on the list of the most visited websites. Although it started out as an online bookstore, Amazon now offers everything from books to iPod’s to almost anything else you could want.

#6 – eBay

The world’s largest online auction website remains one of the most visited websites of the year. EBay has just undergone a logo change and makeover so perhaps it’ll make it further up the list next year?

#7 – Wikipedia

Wikipedia is the biggest encyclopaedia ever created and it remains one of the most visited sites in the world. Wikipedia is a non-profit organisation and allows users to contribute.

#8 – Windows Live

Coming in at number eight we have Windows Live. Windows Live offers email services, weather, a search engine courtesy of Bing and much more.

#9 – Craigslist

Craigslist might have started out as a humble classified ads website but it has grown into one of the biggest and most well-known websites in the world.

#10 – Twitter

Another popular social networking website; Twitter is the tenth most-visited website in the world. Millions of tweets are composed every single day on the Twitter website.
